نقد و بررسی روتر سیسکو مدل 2611XM:

روتر 2611XM با قابلیت پشتیبانی از 2 ماژول WAN می‌تواند به صورت همزمان به همراه برقراری روتینگ بین VLANهای مختلف با استفاده از پورت‌های FastEthernet موجود بر روی آن و همچنین روتینگ بین شبکه‌های مختلف، ارتباط WAN را نیز فراهم آورد. با توجه به این که سری XM از نظر توانایی سخت‌افزاری دارای قدرت بالاتری نسبت به سری معمولی روترهای 2600 می‌باشد می‌توان از این روترها در برقراری سرویس‌هایی با ظرفیت بالاتر و حجم اطلاعات بالاتر استفاده نمود. نکته قابل توجه در روترهای 2600 به کارگیری امکانات سخت‌افزاری مانند DSP می‌باشد که جهت پردازش بهتر سیگنال‌های دیجیتالی به کار می‌رود و در شبکه‌های Voice over IP بسیار کاربرد دارد و هر چقدر میزان قدرت DSPها بالاتر باشد امکان برقرار کانال‌های ارتباطی دیجیتال بالاتری فراهم خواهد بود. سری 2611XM دارای قابلیت نصب کارت خاصی با نام AIM یا Advanced integration modules می‌باشد که وظیفه آن کمک به پردازش عملیات سنگینی مانند Encryption و یا Data Compression و همچنین موارد مربوط به پردازش صوت و دیتا می‌باشد که با استفاده از کارت‌های AIM مربوطه قابل استفاده می‌باشد و این کارت می‌تواند حدود 10 برابر پردازش عملیات را نسبت به پردازش توسط سیستم عامل را بالاتر برد. استفاده از کارت‌های AIM با توجه به این که بر روی مادربرد روتر نصب می‌گردد باعث می‌شود که فضای مربوط به ماژول‌های قابل نصب بر روی روتر حفظ شود و بتوان ماژول‌های مورد نظر را به همراه کارت مربوطه به صورت همزمان در اختیار داشت. گزینه‌های مختلفی برای کارت‌های AIM موجود می‌باشد که پر استفاده‌ترین آن‌ها AIM-VPN/EPII و AIM-VPN/EPII-PLUS می‌باشد که امکان برقراری ارتباط تونل را با تعداد بسیار بالاتر و همچنین پردازش سخت‌افزاری بسیار بالاتری جهت Encryption تا 80Mbps فراهم می‌گردد. روترهای سری 2611XM دارای یک اسلات جهت نصب کارت AIM می‌باشند. همچنین روتر سری 2611XM دارای دو پورت FastEthernet به صورت فیکس بوده و قابلیت نصب 2 کارت WAN و یا کارت‌های مربوط به Voice بر روی آن می‌باشد. کارت‌های Network Module امکان انتخاب و نصب ماژول‌های مختلف بر روی روتر 2600 را فراهم می‌کنند که تنوع بسیار بالایی دارند و با توجه به روتر مورد نظر و همچنین IOS موجود بر روی روتر می‌تواند سرویس مورد نظر ما را ارائه کند. این کارت‌ها که به عنوان NM شناخته می‌شوند به صورت کارت‌های سوئیچ یا کارت‌های امنیتی IDS و همچنین کارت‌هایی با قابلیت نصب کارت‌های DSP و یا کارت‌های Network Analyzer می‌باشد که هر کدام از این کارت‌ها با توجه به نوع نیاز ما در شبکه قابل انتخاب بوده و استفاده هر چه بهینه‌تر از روتر سری 2600 را برای ما فراهم می‌آورد. بر روی روتر 2611XM به صورت پیش فرض 32MB حافظه فلش وجود دارد و حداکثر تا میزان 48MB را پشتیبانی می‌کند. حافظه RAM موجود بر روی این سری روتر 128MB می‌باشد و حداکثر تا میزان 256MB را پشتیبانی می‌کند. همچنین این روتر می‌تواند با استفاده از NM کارت HDV از کارت‌های PVDM پشتیبانی کند.
